FAQs

How do I Register with the Practice?

Patients living in or moving into the Practice area who wish to register with the practice are asked to bring their medical cards into the Surgery. Should you be unable to find your card the receptionist will provide another form for you to complete. We also ask you to complete a health form with basic medical details because sometimes records from your previous practice take a while to arrive.

We offer all patients, newly registering, an appointment for a brief medical check-up and would be grateful if you could make time for this as we find it very useful and additionally it is good to meet new patients. If you move out of the area we regret that you must register with another practice.

See practice's area map below.

How do I obtain a Repeat Prescription?
To obtain a repeat prescription please tick the appropriate box on the duplicate page of your script and then hand it in, post it, or fax it to the Surgery on 01580 211659. We are hoping soon to provide an email facility but regret that this is not currently available.

Elderly or housebound patients may, by prior arrangement, telephone for repeat prescriptions, but we request that other patients do not phone, except in exceptional circumstances, as this not only blocks the phone lines, but increases the chance of a prescribing error.

We routinely deliver prescriptions to the Goudhurst Pharmacy and you may collect your medication from there, but please allow two working days as sometimes medication has to be ordered. If you wish to collect your prescription from the Surgery please state this clearly on the form.

Your repeat prescription slip will have a review date on it and a reminder to see the Doctor or Nurse will be printed on the slip as the date approaches. Please make an appointment when requested. All patients on repeat medication must be seen at least annually.
How do I obtain the Result of a Medical Test?
Tests and Xrays take varying times to come back to the Surgery. Please ask, when having the test done, when the result is likely to be back. Please try to ring for results in the afternoons as this is a less busy time for the receptionists.

All results are seen by the Doctors, who mark them with a comment for the receptionist to pass on to you. We are always happy to discuss results with you and will call you back if you wish. Even if you forget to phone we will always contact you with a result that needs some action, nevertheless we like you to be responsible for ensuring the result is back and that it is satisfactory.
What is the Procedure If I need Travel Vaccinations?
Useful Link - Travel Vaccinations
Brenda, the Practice Nurse is always happy to advise. You can leave a message for her with the receptionists giving details of your travel plans, length of stay and the time of year you are going and she will call you back. Alternatively you can follow the link below to find information for yourself and then make an appointment with the Nurse for the injections. If possible allow six weeks before travel but, longer for complicated travel itineraries which may require Rabies or Hepatitis B etc. We do not give Yellow Fever Vaccination at this Surgery, but can advise you on where to receive this if you phone the surgery.
How do I make a Comment or Complaint about the Practice?

Fortunately this is not a "Frequently Asked Question" but we have put this information here nonetheless for ease.

If you wish to comment on, or complain about, any aspect of the service provided by the Practice you should speak to one of the receptionists in the first instance. We have a procedure for dealing with complaints and the Practice Administrator will arrange to see you privately to discuss the matter to decide what further action needs to be taken. Alternatively you may write to either of the Doctors or the Practice Administrator at the practice address on the home page.

The practice conducts an annual postal survey on randomly selected patients and has discussed the results of this with a “Forum Group” of volunteer patients. The result of the survey is displayed on the Surgery notice-board.

The Freedom of Information Act 2000, recognises that members of the public have the right to know how public services are organised and run, how much they cost and how decisions are made.
